Lumia vs LínBoo: two all-in-one astrology and tarot apps, compared honestly

LínBoo and Lumia make the same argument against the older apps: you should not need four apps for a chart, a horoscope, a compatibility check and a tarot pull. They then build different things on that argument. LínBoo is free, needs no account, and lets you choose the voice of the reading. Lumia adds a second tradition — BaZi — reads the chart as one piece, and turns it into a daily practice with a journal.

What LínBoo is

LínBoo describes itself as “a free, all-in-one astrology and tarot web application” that “calculates professional-grade natal charts, daily horoscopes, and relationship synastry using precise Swiss Ephemeris data”. Its distinctive feature is two AI personas: Astra, “gentle, healing, encouraging”, and Umbra, “brutally honest shadow work”, available on the same chart. Its comparison page positions it against Co-Star, The Pattern, Natal AI, Zodiac Zero and Sanctuary as the one app with all four practices, free, with no login.

Where they differ

One tradition versus two

LínBoo’s four practices are all Western: natal chart, horoscope, synastry, tarot. Lumia’s chart is Western too, and beside it sits BaZi, the Chinese four pillars, cast from the same birth entry with historically correct timezones. Compatibility is read from both. The LifePrint folds Western, BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu into one type and a decade arc. What BaZi adds.

A voice you choose versus a reading you can check

LínBoo’s two personas change the register of a reading — soft or blunt — on the same chart. Lumia has one voice, plain and direct, and offers a tone preference for how it is delivered, but the substance of a reading does not change with the tone: a difficult chart stays difficult. Every whole-chart reading is written so you can see which part of the chart a sentence came from.

Per-feature versus one chart

LínBoo presents its features as a menu: My Chart, Fortune, Tarot, Synastry, Friends. Lumia presents one chart and reads it: the Birth Blueprint as a whole, the transit map for today against it, BaZi for what feeds and drains you, tarot for the question in front of you, and a card and a message each morning. The questions people bring are the way in.

The journal

Lumia keeps what every reading said next to what you wrote back. LínBoo does not state a journal.

Frequently asked questions

How is Lumia different from LínBoo?

Both are all-in-one: chart, daily reading, compatibility and tarot in one place, both on Swiss Ephemeris. LínBoo is Western astrology with a choice of two AI voices and no account needed. Lumia adds BaZi, reads the chart in depth rather than by feature, builds a daily practice around it, and keeps a journal.

Is LínBoo really free with no login?

That is what LínBoo states: core readings across its four practices are free and need no account. Lumia's free chart is also cast without an account; keeping it, and the readings around it, needs a free account.

Does LínBoo have BaZi?

LínBoo lists astrology, horoscope, synastry and tarot, all Western. It does not list BaZi or any Chinese system. Lumia reads BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu alongside the Western chart.

Lumia casts your birth chart from your date, time and city and reads it in plain language. The chart and its reading are free; BaZi, compatibility and the deeper tarot spreads are Premium at $8.99 a month, first week free.
