Lumia vs The Pattern: chart-first readings instead of personality profiles
The Pattern takes your birth data and returns profiles: Your Pattern for who you are, Your Timing for the cycles you are in, Bonds for how you fit with someone. It reads less like a horoscope app than a psychological guide, and it says so. Lumia starts from the same data and shows you the chart itself, reads it in plain language, adds BaZi and tarot, and keeps a journal beside it all.
What The Pattern is
The Pattern’s three parts are its core personality reading, its Timing view of the planetary cycles in play now and ahead, and Bonds, its compatibility with anyone, friend or partner. Core content is free; the deeper material — extended bond readings, full timing, additional personality sections, and “Time Travel” to see any cycle on any day — is behind the Go Deeper+ subscription, from $14.99 a month or $29.99 for three months. Its language is poetic and philosophical by design, and it stays away from astrological jargon.
Where the two part ways
Profile versus chart
The Pattern’s strength is that you never need to know what a house is. Its cost is that you cannot check its work: a sentence about you arrives without the placement it came from. Lumia takes the other side of that trade. The wheel is on the page, every planet and house is written out under it, and the whole-chart reading names the mechanism sparingly — a house or a planet once or twice, always paired with what it means for you. You can see why a line was written.
One tradition versus three
The Pattern is Western birth data read one way. Lumia reads the same moment through Western astrology and BaZi, the Chinese four pillars, and folds both with Zi Wei Dou Shu into your LifePrint. When two systems agree on something, that is worth more than either alone; when they disagree, the reading says so. What BaZi is.
Timing
Both read timing. The Pattern’s Timing view is its distinctive feature and goes deep on planetary cycles. Lumia reads timing at three scales: today’s score and message from transits against your chart, the season from those same transits, and the decade from BaZi’s ten-year luck pillars. How Lumia reads timing.
Tarot and the journal
The Pattern has neither. Lumia’s tarot is for the question in front of you — one card for a yes or no, three for the arc, seven for the situation — and the journal keeps what every reading said.
