How a Lumia reading is built
A Lumia reading is a written interpretation of a chart computed from your exact birth date, time and place. It is built in two stages that never blur: first the chart is calculated, with no interpretation in it at all; then the chart is read, in a fixed order, in plain language.
Stage one: how is the chart computed?
The computation stage produces the raw chart — positions, pillars, houses — before a single interpretive word exists. Nothing at this stage is generated or approximated; it is astronomy and calendar arithmetic, and two people born at the same moment in the same place get the same chart.
Western astrology: Swiss Ephemeris
Planetary positions come from Swiss Ephemeris, the standard library in professional astrology software. The ascendant, midheaven and house cusps are cast from the horizon at your birthplace at your birth minute — which is why the time matters: an hour of error moves the ascendant by roughly fifteen degrees, often into the next sign.
BaZi: the four pillars, derived
The BaZi chart is a four-pillars derivation: the year, month, day and hour of birth each resolve to a heavenly stem and an earthly branch, using the solar calendar and the historical timezone actually in force at your birth. From those eight characters come the day master, its strength, and the balance of the five elements.
Stage two: the interpretation, in a fixed order
The interpretation is structured the same way every time, so a reading is a document you can navigate rather than a monologue. Each section reads the computed chart — it never freewheels — and where it names a technique, it says in the same breath what that technique means for you.
Overview
The overview states the shape of the chart in a few sentences: the dominant element or pattern, the day master’s strength, the one or two structures everything later refers back to. It is the thesis of the reading, and every section after it is evidence for or against that thesis.
Career & wealth
This section reads the houses and pillars that govern work and money: what kind of work the chart is built for, how wealth tends to arrive — earned steadily, or in windows — and which periods favour pushing versus consolidating.
Relationships & family
The relationship section reads the spouse palace and the relationship houses: the pattern you tend to repeat, what a workable partnership looks like for this chart, and the family dynamics the chart keeps pointing back to.
Health themes
Health is read as themes, never diagnoses: which element runs short in the chart, which system that shortage traditionally maps to, and what kind of strain the chart suggests watching for. It is a prompt for attention, not a medical finding.
Ten-year cycles
Both Chinese systems divide a life into ten-year periods — luck pillars in BaZi, decade palaces in Zi Wei Dou Shu. This section names your current period, what it favours and resists, and when the next boundary falls, because the boundaries are where lives visibly change gear.
The year ahead
The reading closes at the finest grain: the current year’s pillar set against your chart. It says which of the year’s months and questions matter most for you specifically, which is the part of a reading you can actually act on.
Why more than one system?
No single system reads more than about seventy percent of a life. That estimate comes from practice, not doctrine: every system has a blind spot, and the blind spots do not overlap. So Lumia triangulates — Western astrology for temperament and timing, BaZi for constitution, Zi Wei Dou Shu for structure, tarot for the immediate question.
Triangulation is also the honesty mechanism. When two systems arrive at the same theme independently, the reading says it with confidence; when they disagree, the reading says that too, because the disagreement marks the limit of what the charts can settle. A method that cannot say “unclear” cannot be trusted when it says “clear”.
What is a reading, and what is it not?
A reading is guidance: a description of tendencies, timing and trade-offs, written so you can check it against your own life. It is not fate — the chart describes the weather, and you still decide how to sail. Nothing in a reading predicts a fixed event you cannot act on.
A reading is also not professional advice. It is not medical, legal or financial counsel, and it should never stand in for a professional who can examine your actual situation.
