Your BaZi day master: the element that stands for you
The day master is the element that stands for you in a BaZi chart: the heavenly stem of your day pillar. Everything else in the chart is read in relation to it — what feeds it, what drains it, what it controls, what controls it. There are ten, one yang and one yin of each element, and the first thing a reading decides is which one you are and whether it is strong or weak.
The ten day masters

Strong or weak is the real question
Which element you are says how you move. Whether it is strong or weak says what you need, and that is where the practical reading comes from. A day master is strong when the month it was born in and the characters around it supply its own element or the one that feeds it. A strong day master has more of itself than it needs: it does well with outlets, with work that asks something of it, with challenge, and badly with more support, which turns to excess. A weak day master has less than it needs: it runs down when unsupported, does well with the elements that feed it and with allies, and badly in conditions that only demand.
This is why two people with the same day master can be told opposite things. A strong yang wood should take the harder job; a weak one should take the one with the better team.
What feeds and what drains each element
Wood is fed by water and drained by fire; fire is fed by wood and drained by earth; earth is fed by fire and drained by metal; metal is fed by earth and drained by water; water is fed by metal and drained by wood.
