BaZi compatibility: how two four-pillar charts fit
BaZi compatibility asks a simpler question than most: does this person supply what you are short of, or more of what you already have too much of? Two charts, each with a day master and an element balance, are read against each other. Where one feeds the other, the pair has a natural flow. Where one controls the other, there is a friction to name and manage. Neither is a verdict on the relationship; both are things you can see coming.
What is read
The two day masters
Every pairing of the five elements has a relation: same, feeding, fed by, controlling, controlled by. Wood with water is wood fed; wood with metal is wood controlled; wood with wood is peers. The relation between two day masters sets the basic temper of the pair — who tends to give, who tends to take, where it rubs.
What each chart is short of
This is where compatibility gets useful. If you are a weak fire day master short of wood, a partner whose chart is rich in wood feeds you in a way you will feel as ease. If they are rich in water, the element that controls fire, you will feel it as being dampened, and the reading says so plainly, along with what to do when it happens.
The branches
The earthly branches of the two charts also meet: some combine, some clash, some harm. A day-branch clash between two people is a known pattern of arguments that recur; a combination is a known ease. The reading names the pattern rather than predicting the fight.
What today does to the pair
The current day has its own pillar, and it meets each chart differently. Lumia’s compatibility reading ends with today between you: a day that favours one of you more than the other, a day to make a decision together, a day to give each other room. Your own compatibility does not move with the day; the day is weather.
BaZi and Western together
Lumia reads compatibility from both systems. The Western half reads the two natal charts — Venus, the Moon, the seventh house, the aspects between the charts — for how you love and how you fight. The BaZi half reads the elements. When both point the same way, that is worth knowing; when they split, the reading says which is which. Compatibility readings covers the whole thing. Back to BaZi.
